Abstract

Introduction: Mucoceles are pseudocystic and expansive formations of the paranasal sinuses. These are benign formations. Its outer wall is made up of more or less modified mucosa of the sinus cavity, while its content consists of an aseptic liquid with a viscous consistency.

Objective: To describe a case of left maxillary sinus mucocele.

Clinical case report: This is a male patient, white skin, referred from his health area with repetitive episodes of rhinosinusitis. A computed tomography of the paranasal sinuses was performed, which showed a hyperdense image in the left maxillary sinus consistent with a mucocele. It was decided to excise the lesion using the Caldwell-Luc technique and to take a sample for biopsy.

Conclusions: The diagnosis of sinonasal mucocele should be based on the clinical history and physical examination of the patient, relying on radiographic images. Surgery is the treatment of choice.
