Abstract

Introduction: Mucoceles are benign and expandable lesions, but locally destructive that originate when a trapped mucosa secretes mucus into a confined space causing a progressive expansion, the frontal sinus is more prone to the formation of mucoceles.

Objective: To present a case with frontal mucocele and its clinical management.

Clinical case: Male patient, 30 years old, who in a period of 5 years has presented several episodes of frontal sinusitis, which have fistulated the skin of the left eyelid and the orbit.

Conclusions: Currently, endoscopic techniques are the ones that are recommended in surgical treatments of the paranasal sinuses; however, osteoplastic approaches to the frontal sinuses provide excellent exposure of the entire sinus and recesses, with minimal cosmetic deformity, although they are contraindicated in cases of malignant disease and in hypoplastic frontal sinuses.
