Abstract

José Martí stood out for his revolutionary work. He is considered to be the architect behind the struggle for the independence of Cuba and other peoples of America. However, that immense task rested on a health broken by many diseases. Recurrent laryngitis stood out. This condition was caused by his underlying disease: sarcoidosis and his work as a speaker, teacher and tireless preacher of union and freedom. Driven by the advocate's refusal to rest his voice, the present bibliographic review was carried out based on an analytical-synthetic and historic logical method with the aim of deepening the subject. At the end, it was possible to conclude that José Martí's health was visible weakened due to multiple diseases such as sarcocele, sarcoidosis, chronic catarrhal conjunctivitis with drooping of the right eyelid, acute broncho-laryngitis, laryngitis. These diseases did not prevent him from continuing his determined fight for justice.
