Abstract

Introduction: Eagle syndrome is a clinical-surgical entity characterized by elongation of the styloid process and/or alterations in the mineralization of the stylohyoid ligament, which can cause orofacial and cervical pain as cardinal symptoms. The great variability of presentation of the clinical picture often leads to suspicion in other entities, although the thorough exploration of the otorhinolaryngological examination, especially the oropharyngeal examination, can allow an accurate diagnostic impression of this disease. The most specific imaging method for its confirmation is tomography with 3D reconstruction. The treatment of this entity can be medical and/or surgical. A clinical case of a patient diagnosed with Eagle syndrome by the Otorhinolaryngology service of the National Center for Minimal Access Surgery is presented.

Objective: To describe an interesting case with Eagle syndrome.

Clinical case: A 30-year-old male patient with a history of presenting left pharyngeal pain for approximately one year radiating to the ear on the same side. Palpation of the left tonsillar region reveals an indurated area in the left anterior pillar.

Conclusions: The most sensitive and highly valuable diagnostic method for planning potential surgical treatment is 3D restructuring tomography.
