Performance of endoscopic surgery in patients with rinosinusitis
Keywords:
chronic rhinosinusitis, nasal polyposis, endoscopic surgery.Abstract
Introduction: Sinus endoscopic surgery as a surgical treatment offers its advantages as it is a less invasive technique that involves the absence of an external surgical wound, less bleeding and a shorter duration of the surgical act itself.
Objective: To describe the clinical evolution of patients with rhinosinusitis, treated with endoscopic surgery.
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional investigation was carried out in the period from September 2018 to May 2021. The universe consisted of 100 patients with rhinosinusitis. Variables such as: age, skin color, symptoms, gender, history of smoking, rhinosinusitis, previous conventional surgery, post-surgical evolution and complications were studied.
Results: The age group between 40 - 59 years prevailed, the risk factors present were: smoking and septal deviation. The associated symptoms that most frequently appeared were the major ones, observing a predominance of nasal obstruction followed by facial oppression and purulent rhinorrhea. It was found that most of the patients had a favorable post-surgical evolution after endoscopic surgery. The most frequent complication before, during and after being treated by endoscopic surgery was bleeding and secondary sinusitis.
Conclusions: Nasal endoscopic surgery should be considered as the alternative of choice in the surgical treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis and nasal polyposis, as it is an effective and safe technique, the proper performance of which allows postoperative complications to be few and recovery to be better.
