Abstract

Introduction: Transoral endoscopic surgery has had many advances in recent decades. At General Calixto García hospital, it was introduced since 1997, and significant learning curve has already been achieved.

Objective: To determine the results of transoral endoscopic surgery in laryngeal diseases.

Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional observational study was carried out in 144 patients, who underwent transoral endoscopic surgery. The epidemiological variables used were sex, age, surgical results of benign diseases and persistence in malignant diseases. Vocal quality was evaluated 6 months after the intervention using VHI-30.

Results: The female sex predominated between the fifth and sixth decade of life. Minimal associated lesions prevailed, including Reinke's edema. Most of the treated patients with benign lesions had good surgical outcome. Regarding the oncological disease, there was no persistence at 6 months. When evaluating the vocal capacity of the patients within the study, the majority was found without disability.

Conclusions: Transoral endoscopic surgery of the larynx is concluded to revolutionize the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of this organ. Most of the patients with benign lesions, treated with this procedure, had good surgical result when the disease. Signs and symptoms were eliminated.
