Abstract

Introduction: Regarding the cognitive and motor development of children with cerebral palsy, a strong relationship is commonly observed between language as a cognitive function and the functioning of phonoarticulatory structures in terms of the motor aspect.

Objective: To show the deficiencies in the chronological acquisition of oral communication in children with cerebral palsy.

Methods: A search was carried out in the PubMed, LILACS, SciELO and Google Scholar databases between December 2021 and April 2023.

Conclusions: The importance of early and specialized intervention in patients with cerebral palsy is based on motor learning, involving muscle reeducation and brain plasticity. Knowledge about feeding therapy in patients with cerebral palsy, during the speech rehabilitation process, should be especially relevant for health professionals and the family of these children.
