Abstract

Introduction: Ménière's disease is a peripheral disorder with a multifactorial etiology. Currently, conservative treatment is preferred based on the severity of the clinical presentation, although other surgical therapeutic alternatives exist, but these can cause irreversible hearing loss.

Objective: To review the current literature on Ménière's disease and its treatments. Methods: A descriptive review of articles related to Ménière's disease was conducted from January 2020 to January 2025. Forty-nine high-impact articles related to this topic were evaluated. The search prioritized articles published in the last three years. The following databases were consulted: Medline/Pubmed, SciELO and Lilacs.

Conclusions: To date, treatment has been based on medications and various techniques to relieve or prevent symptoms. However, treatment for this disease is highly complex and requires a multidisciplinary approach. As the disease progresses, persistent and progressive hearing loss is observed over the years, impacting quality of life.
