Therapeutic Adherence in Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis

Authors

Abstract

Introduction: Recurrent respiratory papillomatosis is a benign neoplasm of the upper airway, characterized by its tendency to recur and the need for multiple interventions.

Objective: To evaluate adherence to surgical and adjuvant treatment in patients with recurrent respiratory papillomatosis treated at the “Hermanos Ameijeiras” Clinical Surgical Hospital.

Methods: A descriptive, ambispective, and longitudinal study was conducted from April 2022 to March 2024 in 112 patients over 19 years of age. Demographic, clinical, and therapeutic variables were analyzed.

Results: Most patients were male and over 60 years old. Lesions were mainly located in the larynx, with dysphonia as the most frequent symptom. 87.4 % of patients showed adherence to treatment, and more than half had a favorable outcome.

Conclusions: Therapeutic adherence was high and associated with better clinical outcomes. Protocolized follow- up and the use of recombinant interferon alfa -2b contributed to disease control.
