Abstract

Introduction: Cysts are tumors characterized by having different substances inside. They appear as consequence of an inflammatory reaction or for an unknown cause, they represent less than 2% of cysts that are reported throughout the body.

Objective: To report the rare case of a girl, operated on in the Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery Service at Dr. Octavio de la Concepción y de la Pedraja for a mandibular aneurysmal bone cyst.

Clinical case report: A seven-year-old, female, white patient, in good health was admitted to the service due to an aneurysmal bone cyst, she was underwent histological and imaging studies and surgical treatment using a retromandibular approach, the paraffin biopsy confirmed the initial diagnosis.

Conclusions: The causes of the aneurysmal bone cyst are not clear and the history of trauma is rare. The clinical, imaging, histological study and the total removal and repair of the postsurgical defect are primordial to avoid recurrences and complications due to injury to neighboring structures.
