Abstract

Introduction: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma is the most prevalent cancer in otorhinolaryngology. Worldwide, this location ranks seventh in mortality, representing approximately 375,000 deaths annually and most frequently originate in the oral cavity, mainly the tongue, followed by the gingiva and floor of the mouth. Associated with the increase in risk practices such as the consumption of alcohol and tobacco.

Objectives: To describe a clinical case with diagnosis of epidermoid carcinoma of the tongue.

Clinical case: We report the case of a 63-year-old female patient, with risk factors of being a smoker for 50 years. She came in due to discomfort when chewing for 4 months and in the last few days, she noticed an increase in the volume of her tongue. She received concurrent chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotherapy treatment, achieving a complete response to the proposed therapy.

Conclusions: The combined treatment of radiotherapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy is paving an encouraging path in the evolution, response and survival of patients with head and neck cancer. The patient showed an adequate response to the indicated therapy.
