Abstract

Introduction: The incidence of hearing disorders has increased over time. For its topographic diagnosis, a series of tests are used that are key for the audiologist when it comes to specifying the condition that the patient suffers.

Objective: To determine the importance of acumetry for the detection of hearing diseases.

Methods: An exhaustive investigation was carried out in different bibliographic sources and basic texts of the specialty.

Analysis and synthesis of the information: Acumetry is the use of a set of hearing exploration means that do not use electronic equipment for its implementation, serving to fulfil its objective of tuning forks, the spoken word and noises. These guiding tests help the examiner to determine whether or not the patient has a possible sensorineural or conductive hearing loss.

Conclusions: Cumometric tests are still an excellent clinical tool today and should be part of any audiological examination. Their clinical usefulness lies in the fact that they establish levels of hearing comparison, position the lesion topographically and allow differential diagnosis, in addition, they provide help in simulations and allow to confirm or reject the validity of the audiometric results.
