Abstract

Introduction: Tinnitus is the perception of a sound in the absence of an external sound stimulus. It poses a significant problem due to the impact on daily activities, influencing the ability to concentrate, sleep, mood and behavior.

Objective: To determine the effectiveness of combined treatment (conventional plus auriculotherapy) in patients with perception of tinnitus.

Methods: A developmental, longitudinal and prospective quasi-experimental investigation was carried out in the Otorhinolaryngology consultation at Arnaldo Milián Castro University Hospital in Villa Clara, from September 2017 to September 2020. The sample was made up in a non-probabilistic way by 98 patients: 51 in the study group and 47 in the control group.

Results: Male patients predominated (51.0% in the study group, 76.6% in the control group), with exposure to noise (72.5% in the study group, 68.1% in the control one). Moderate tinnitus disability predominated with high intensity before treatment (21.6%) and low intensity after treatment in 27.5%.

Conclusions: Auriculotherapy, as a tinnitus adjunctive treatment, offers perspectives in the management of patients with this event.
