Introduction: Infectious mononucleosis is a disease that generally has a benign course, but it can sometimes cause inflammation of the pharyngeal lymphoid tissue and severe obstruction of the upper airway, putting the patient's life at risk.Objective: Delve into some aspects related to the management of severe obstruction of the upper airway in infectious mononucleosis Analysis and synthesis of information: Infectious mononucleosis is a clinical syndrome caused primarily by the Epstein-Barr virus. It is characterized by systemic symptoms such as malaise, fever, sore throat, and generalized lymphadenopathy. Health personnel caring for a child with this disease must bear in mind that when respiratory distress occurs, it can progress, requiring urgent control of the upper airway, for which there are currently several techniques.Conclusions: Although infectious mononucleosis is a disease with a low frequency of complications, doctors cannot be confident during its evolution.
