Abstract

Introduction: Nasal septum abscess is defined as the collection of pus between the cartilage or bone of the nasal septum and the mucoperichondrium or mucoperiosteum. It is a rare disease that the pediatrician should suspect in any patient with acute nasal obstruction and a recent history of trauma, periodontal infection or an inflammatory process involving the rhinosinusal region.

Objective: To present a pediatric case with abscess of the nasal septum.

Clinical case: A 4 year-old patient who, after a nasal trauma, presented with fever, general status, obstruction and bilateral nasal secretion.

Conclusions: The need for rapid diagnosis and treatment in patients with nasal septum abscess should be emphasized, in order to reduce the risk of serious infectious complications and possible functional and aesthetic sequelae.
