Introduction: Tonsillectomy is the resection of the palatine tonsil, unilateral or bilateral. Within its complications, trans and postoperative pain and bleeding are described.
Objective: To describe the results of the use of auriculotherapy in the prevention and treatment of postoperative complications in patients undergoing tonsillectomy.
Methods: An observational, quasi-experimental and longitudinal technological innovation research was carried out in 60 patients who underwent surgery for tonsillectomy at the ArnaldoMilián Castro Clinical Surgical University Hospital in the period between January 2020and December 2022.
Results: The age group from 19 to 29 years (43.3%) and the female sex (65.0%) predominated. After 24 hours, the patients in the control group mostly reported light pain, while those in whom auriculotherapy was applied did not.Bleeding in the study group was less, although there were no statistically significant differences (p>0.05).Patients in the study group had 2 times less need to use rescue analgesics than patients in the control group.
Conclusions: A decrease in bleeding, pain and the need to use rescue analgesics was observed as a response to the use of auriculotherapy in tonsillectomy.
