Abstract

Introduction: Nasopharyngeal angiofibroma is a benign tumor, originating in the nasopharynx, composed of fibrous connective tissue and abundant endothelium-lined vascular spaces.

Objective: To describe a clinical case with an infrequent benign tumor in the nasopharynx.

Clinical case: White male patient, 19 years old, with apparent health history, who attended the otorhinolaryngologist presenting a one-year history of nasal obstructive symptoms, accompanied in recent months by significant epistaxis. On physical examination, the posterior rhinoscopy revealed a reddish, non-ulcerated tumor in the nasopharynx.

Results: Once the patient underwent surgery and removed the tumor by endonasal endoscopic approach, the pathological result showed a nasopharyngeal angiofibroma.

Conclusions: The endonasal endoscopic technique enables a total excision of these tumors, with evolution without sequelae or recurrences. It constitutes part of the comprehensive management of patients with this type of lesion, reducing morbidity and having a positive impact on their quality of life
