Quality of life in elderly patients with hearing loss and use of aids auditory

Introduction: The loss of hearing capacity implies an important impact on the quality of life of the elderly in Cuba, and most of them can receive treatment for hearing loss through communication rehabilitation, with the use of aids. auditory.
Objective: to evaluate the quality of life through the rehabilitation of communication, through the use of hearing aids, in the elderly, who present hearing loss
Methods: Descriptive, longitudinal and prospective study (pre and post hearing aid) based on the Handicap Hearing Impairment in the Elderly quality of life questionnaire and the International Outcome Inventory for Hearing Aids or International Hearing Aid Outcome Questionnaire to assess adherence.
Results: Presbycusis was the prevalent cause of moderate bilateral sensorineural hearing loss in elderly males. Initially, a serious social and emotional limitation was evident. After the use of the hearing aid, the improvement in the quality of life and adherence was noted with a positive effect on his life according to the results of questionnaires.
Conclusions: Presbycusis turned out to be significantly the main cause of moderate sensorineural hearing loss in the cases of the study. Hearing aid positively impacts the quality of life of the elderly after use and their adherence, improving their daily lives and relationships with family members in their social environment.
