Pleomorphic adenoma operated by endoscopic approach
Keywords:
congenital pleomorphic adenoma, nasal cavity, endoscopic surgery.Abstract
Introduction: Salivary gland tumors constitute 3% of all neoplasms and 1 to 6% of those found in the head and neck. Pleomorphic adenoma is the most frequent benign tumor of the major salivary glands in the pediatric population, mainly of the parotid gland, with a frequency of 70 to 80%.
Objective: To describe three cases with pleomorphic adenoma.
Clinical case: First case; 18-year-old male patient with epistaxis and slight unilateral nasal obstruction of the left nostril. Second case; male patient a month and a half old, with persistent marked nasal obstruction and difficulty feeding. Third case; 3-month-old female patient with right nasal obstruction. On physical examination through rigid nasofibroscopy with a 0° lens, it is evident in all; Tumor-like volume increase, pink, shiny, with a smooth surface in the corresponding nostril.
Conclusions: Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common benign neoplasm of the major salivary glands. Its presentation at the level of the nasal cavity is infrequent, especially on the lateral wall of the inferior turbinate. Imaging studies help establish the size and extent of the lesion; which will allow timely, less invasive treatment and less recurrence. The treatment of choice is surgical excision with free margins.
