Survival of patients undergoing partial laryngeal surgery

Introduction: Laryngeal cancer in early stages has a good prognosis before radiant therapy, and in cases where this therapeutic modality is not indicated, mastery of partial surgical techniques makes the treatment a success.Objective: Analyze survival of patients undergoing partial laryngeal surgery.Methods: A descriptive and retrospective epidemiological study was carried out to determine the survival of patients with laryngeal cancer who underwent partial laryngeal surgery. The universe was made up of patients with laryngeal cancer who attended the consultations of the María Curíe Oncological Hospital in Camagüey province, in the period between 2005 and 2022, and the convenience sample was made up of 47 patients who received surgical treatment. Survival was considered as a dependent variable, as independent: age, sex, the topographic location of the lesion, partial surgical technique performed and the survival of the patients.Results: The male sex predominated in the age group of 51-60, the glottic - supraglottic location, the surgical technique that was most applied was the subtotal with cricohyoidopexy without epigotoplasty, most of the patients were alive at the end of the study. Conclusions: The treatment of patients with early stage cancer must guarantee a survival adjusted to the possibilities offered by the different therapeutic methods regulated and indicated in a timely manner. By evaluating the survival of patients undergoing different surgical techniques, it offers the possibility of knowing long-term results and offering the patient superior quality surgical therapy.Downloads
