Abstract

Introduction: Currently noise pollution is something present in daily life. Every day you are exposed to thousands of sounds of great magnitude and frequency without realizing the damage that it causes and that may be irreversible.

Objective: Identify the social factors that intervene in the reduction of noise pollution.

Methods: A search was performed in the PubMed, Cumed, SeCiMed and other databases. It was analyzed what is related to current knowledge about noise pollution and its impact on human beings and ways to deal with this process.

Conclusions: National and international studies estimate that one third of the world population suffers from some degree of hearing loss and the magnitude of hearing damage is directly related to the frequency and intensity of noise exposure. The degree of injury caused by noise depends on its characteristics and, on the other hand, on the nature of the exposed subject.

Noise is an environmental pollutant that acts as a social problem, and science must work on the development of new technologies that mitigate the consequences of noise.
