Commissuroplasty in a case with Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis

Abstract

Introduction: The commissure or buccal angle is the union of the lower and upper lip. There are a variety of surgical procedures especially when it comes to soft tissue changes in this anatomical region.

Objective: Describe commissuroplasty with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis.

Case presentation: A 51-year-old female patient, diagnosed with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis, with the presence of generalized skin manifestations. She was referred to the maxillofacial service for presenting fusion of both labial commissures, with limited mouth opening, as well as difficulty feeding. A series of complementary laboratory analyzes were indicated and a commissuroplasty was decided as surgical treatment.

Conclusions: The labial commissure is important in the aesthetics and function of the lips, there are causes that can lead to a defect in it, its reconstruction depends on several factors, mainly knowledge of its anatomy and correct planning is vital. to correct any damage.
