Abstract

Introduction: Custom ear molds are made to fit hearing aids, but manufacturing “custom pieces” can be considered a challenge.
Before making a decision about what type of earmold to use, you should consider the style and material to be used. With digital scanning technology and processing (with a specialized program), manufacturing is simpler, and with 3D printing, a better quality product is obtained.
Objective: Present updated information on the indication, use and manufacture of hearing molds.
Methods: A bibliographic review of specialized literature on the topic was carried out. The main search engines were: Virtual Health Library and Google Scholar.
Conclusions: To indicate and manufacture hearing molds, different audiological clinical steps must be carried out, which require knowledge of the anatomy of the ear, the interpretation of audiological tests and the different models of the molds, to select the appropriate one, according to the results of the exams.
