Abstract

Introduction: Prosody and its communicative functions are aspects that are little addressed in Cuba and in international literature, despite the fact that its alterations are increasingly evident today.

Objective: To evaluate the influence of audiovisual media on alterations in children's prosody.

Methods: A descriptive and cross-sectional investigation was carried out on a sample made up of 100 patients with secondary delay in language development due to excessive exposure to audiovisual media, who attended the Speech Therapy and Phoniatrics consultation at the Borrás-Marfán University Pediatric Hospital between November 2020 and November 2022. The sample was divided into two groups with 50 patients each; group A (without prosody disorders) and group B (with prosody disorders). A survey was administered to the parents and the logophoniatric clinical evaluation was carried out.

Results: Group B with prosody disorders prevailed. The age range was 61 to 72 months (32.0%). Children who attend care homes (28.0%) presented twice as many prosody disorders as other patients. The age of initiation of exposure to audiovisual media was less than 12 months (78.0%). The daily exposure time to audiovisual media was greater than 3 h (96.0%). did not exist

Conclusions: It was proven that early age of initiation to audiovisual media, as well as long daily exposure, influences alterations in prosody. Children's programs and programs of foreign origin predominated.
