Abstract

Introduction: Vertigo is a health problem that affects a significant number of patients who come to consultation, since it is a symptom that accompanies many diseases.

Objective: To describe vertigo behavior in the population of eastern Havana.

Methods: A descriptive, prospective, longitudinal study was carried out at “General Calixto García Iñiguez” university hospital from August 2017 to September 2020. The study universe consisted of 82 patients.

Results: There was predominance of females (59.5%) and the most affected age group was between 70 and 79 years of age. The vascular cause of vertigo was the most frequent and most of the patients had altered lipids (cholesterol and triglycerides) as well as uric acid.

Conclusions: It is concluded that peripheral vertigo is more frequent in females over 60 years of age, the vascular etiology predominates in most cases with cardiovascular risk factors. Adequate treatment can clinically improve is observed before 6 months of the onset.
