Abstract

Introduction: Inverted papilloma is a relatively rare neoplasm of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. It is considered a benign tumor, but its biological behavior is not so benign due to its aggressive local growth, high rate of recurrence, and risk of malignant transformation associated with carcinoma.

Objetive: To describe a clinical case with a diagnosis of inverted rhinosinusal papilloma.

Clinical case: A 57-year-old female patient who reported presenting symptoms of nasal obstruction associated with proptosis of the left eye for approximately 7 years. Physical examination reveals an exophytic tumor mass that completely occludes both nostrils.

Conclusions: In these cases, the recommended surgical treatment is the endonasal endoscopic approach combined with external approaches (conventional or mini endoscopic trepanation). Intensity-modulated radiation therapy can be very useful in patients with incompletely resected disease.
